Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN) has named John M. Hinshaw, the former Group Chief Operating Officer of HSBC, to its Board of Directors, effective August 4, 2026. The appointment adds decades of technology, security, risk management and operational leadership to the board as Lumen continues positioning itself as infrastructure for the AI economy.

Lumen Technologies announced that John M. Hinshaw has joined its Board of Directors, a move the company says strengthens its expertise in digital transformation, enterprise technology, risk management and operational excellence. The appointment supports Lumen's ongoing focus on enabling the AI economy through its physical infrastructure, programmable network and connected ecosystem.
Kate Johnson, chief executive officer of Lumen Technologies, said Hinshaw's track record leading technology-driven change at large, complex organisations positions him to offer valuable perspective as the company executes its transformation strategy and works to secure long-term value for the business.
A Career Spanning Global Technology and Finance
Hinshaw brings more than three decades of leadership experience to the role. He most recently served as Group Chief Operating Officer of HSBC, overseeing global operations, technology, risk management and transformation initiatives at the banking giant.
Earlier in his career, Hinshaw held senior leadership roles at Hewlett-Packard and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, including Executive Vice President of Technology and Operations and Chief Customer Officer, and served as Chief Information Officer for both Boeing and Verizon Wireless. He currently sits on the boards of Sysco Corporation and Genpact Limited, and has previously served as a director of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation and DocuSign.
