International food wholesaler METRO has completed a multi-year legacy IT migration across Europe, moving its operations onto a multi-cloud ecosystem built on Google Cloud with delivery led by Wipro. The programme closes out a data centre exit that began in 2020 and positions METRO for faster innovation cycles and large-scale AI adoption.

Cloud Transformation at Scale

Wipro has completed a multi-year data centre migration programme for METRO, moving the company's legacy IT operations onto a multi-cloud ecosystem hosted on Google Cloud.

The partnership spans several years across Europe. The two companies first announced their technology deal in December 2020 and signed an extension to the agreement in June 2025. The new infrastructure supports METRO's long-term growth plans as part of its broader cloud-first strategy and digital transformation agenda.

Automating Operational Processes

The programme also included the integration of Wipro Intelligence, a suite that combines AI-powered platforms, solutions and offerings, according to Wipro.

The deployment enables intelligent automation across several operational areas. User lifecycle management now includes advanced automation capabilities that allow service requests to be managed autonomously, while turnaround times, accuracy and operational efficiency are all expected to improve. The companies say the programme also applies AI-driven engineering tools to accelerate software development cycles.

With a Google Cloud foundation in place, Brady said METRO has eliminated legacy infrastructure constraints and strategically positioned itself to lead in the AI era, with the data architecture, scalability and security required to drive real-time innovation and long-term business value.
