Ryanair has extended its partnership with AWS for another five years, deepening a relationship that has powered the budget airline's cloud infrastructure since 2018 as it now moves toward agentic AI and natural language tools for staff.

Europe's Number One Airline

Ryanair operates 3,900 flights across Europe per day, connecting over 220 airports across 647 aircraft. Based on passenger numbers, scheduled traffic and fleet size, it is Europe's number one airline.

Low fares of around €40 (US$46) for a one-way base fare are central to that success, but Eddie Wilson, Ryanair DAC CEO, credits the airline's tech-driven strategy just as much, pointing to AWS as a key partner in delivering a seamless customer experience from booking to boarding while supporting the efficiency behind Ryanair's low-cost model.

Eight Years of Cloud Transformation

AWS has been Ryanair's sole cloud provider since 2018, when the airline moved its IT infrastructure entirely onto the platform. At the time, John Hurley, Ryanair's Chief Technology Officer, said machine learning was central to the airline's growth, with services like Amazon SageMaker used to personalise the MyRyanair portal.

Eight years on, Ryanair still relies on AWS technologies, including Amazon Quick, Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, to power its website, optimise schedules and enhance operational efficiency with AI tools, digitalised pilot workflows and employee apps offering real-time access to rosters, flight schedules and turn times.

The next step is agentic AI, marked by the two companies extending their partnership until 2031. Eddie Wilson notes that as Ryanair continues growing toward 300 million passengers by 2034, having the right technology partners is critical to delivering further innovation, enhanced customer experience and greater efficiency across the group.

"By extending our collaboration for another five years, AWS will continue to help Ryanair push the boundaries of what's digitally possible within aviation"

How AWS Powers Ryanair

As part of the expanded partnership, Ryanair is rolling out Amazon Quick across its enterprise. The personalised AI assistant lets teams query complex data and existing APIs using simple, natural language, giving staff actionable insights and automated recommendations that speed up decision-making across the airline's operations.

A prime example is Ryanair Connect, a custom employee app powered by Amazon Bedrock. It gives cabin crew real-time visibility into flight details and schedules, letting them manage leave or swap shifts on the fly, while an integrated AI chatbot lets crew instantly query company policies and training materials, cutting down administrative friction across one of Europe's largest fleets.
