NetApp and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced that AWS Transform, AWS's agentic AI migration service, now supports Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP. The integration, now generally available, lets enterprises fold attached storage migration directly into the same automated wave that already handles compute and networking — removing a long-standing bottleneck in large-scale cloud moves.
What's New
AWS Transform is designed to automate the discovery, planning, and execution of cloud migrations. With this update, it can now migrate attached storage and database workloads straight to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, whether the source is on-premises NetApp ONTAP or another block storage platform entirely.
Once migrated, workloads land on a fully managed, production-ready service that combines ONTAP's enterprise data management capabilities with the scalability and resiliency built into AWS infrastructure — including built-in data protection, rapid cloning for dev/test environments, and storage efficiency features.
Why It Matters
Enterprise migrations typically stall when teams have to coordinate separate tools and timelines for applications, servers, networking, and storage. By folding storage migration into the same workflow that moves compute and network resources, organizations can cut out intermediate storage platforms and the extra cost, complexity, and risk they tend to introduce.
That means fewer moving parts, faster migration timelines, and a lower chance of the operational disruption that often derails large-scale cloud transitions.
"Customers can simplify the process, reduce migration risk, and move to AWS faster without changing how their applications operate."— Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Storage and Services, NetApp
Key Use Cases
Virtualized Environments: Move virtual machine environments to AWS without needing a separate storage migration tool.
Enterprise Databases: Migrate business-critical databases to AWS while preserving performance, protection, and operational consistency.
Business-Critical Applications: Bring enterprise applications and their associated data to AWS through a single, simplified, managed storage workflow.
